Gender Identity - June 2022
Brief Statement on Gender Identity
All persons are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27), and were made to glorify Him (Isaiah 43:7); thus, based upon these truths, possess inherent dignity. God’s design was the creation of two distinct sexes, male and female (Genesis 1:27, Matthew 19:4) which designates the fundamental distinction that God has embedded in the very biology of the human race. The Bible gives us clear instruction and boundaries with regard to what constitutes God-honoring expression of human sexuality (Genesis 2:24; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10; Romans 1:26-27).
The fall of man into sin and the subsequent curse of sin have introduced brokenness and futility into God’s good creation and therefore, as a result, some are tempted to question God’s gift of sexuality falling into the trap of gender identity crisis.
We affirm that gender identity is determined by biological sex at birth and not by one’s self-perception - a perception which is often influenced by fallen human nature in ways contrary to God’s design (Ephesians 4:17-18).
To this end this church body of believers called Westwood Baptist Church will hold to these biblical truths about gender identity, and in faith and practice will not support any changes of gender from the biological gender of an individual at birth, or the practice of using any pronouns other than “he/him” for biological males and “she/her” for biological females.
